DUE TO A pretty severe winter, the last six months have been very slow. However, last fall we had someone get seriously injured at a pylon race. So through the winter months, the NMPRA has put together a new race procedure guide. When used along with the AMA rule book, this guide should help those who are going to put on a pylon race. Please pay attention to the safety requirements.

WE VOTED in some new rules this year. The Quarter Midget event was totally changed from the way that we had been flying since Quarter Midget began. I have talked to a lot of people who did not agree with what was done: those people are QM fliers. How did this happen? I am not sure; possibly those who are supposed to represent the fliers voted on what they wanted rather than what the fliers wanted. I am not saying that this happened, but if the shoe fits, wear it!
21st NMPRA Championship Race
Fall marks the end of the racing season. . . well, almost the end. For those of us who fly Formula One there is that one big race left: the National Miniature Pylon Racing Association's Formula One Championship Race. We work all year to qualify, but in order to qualify, you must fall into one of the following categories: the top 20% of your district, an officer, a past champion, one of the AMA Nats top ten, or a past NMPRA Championship Race winner. It is quite an honor to get invited to this race.

SOAPBOX TIME: Formula One is the premier model airplane racing event. Formula One is to model airplanes what Indy racing is to automobiles. Just as there are car drivers who may not race at Indy, there are those modelers who may not race at Formula One, Q-500, Quarter Midget, or any other type of racing. But for those who want to try racing, there are quite a few events in which to get started, with Formula One at the top of the racing ladder.
