Sanding secrets
IN THE LAST CL Aerobatics column, I
wrote about skinning the Project Hole Shot
foam wing cores. The wing skins should be
well cured by now, and it’s time to remove
the weights and sand smooth the skins and
the joint lines between the LE cap pieces
and the skins.

IT’S TIME TO get back to our discussion of properly setting up and
equipping a shop to build a CL Aerobatics (Stunt)—or any other type
of—model. Before beginning I’d like to extend a “Thank you” to all
who have written, called, and/or e-mailed me about the “shop setup”
series.

IT SEEMS THAT electric-powered modelairplane
flight has been “the coming thing”
for the last couple of decades. I can tell you
that it is no longer the coming thing; it’s here
right now!
The pioneers of electric-powered flight
had a vision of a clean, quiet, safe, and
powerful source of propulsion for model
airplanes. The clean and quiet aspects were a
given from the start. The “safe” part has had
its ups and downs—as in any learning
process—but is on the road to being fully
achieved in the near future. The power
aspect—to me, at least—has been the most
interesting part.
