Vintage Stunt Championships
A FEW YEARS back I visited my longtime
and dear friends Dave and Marie Rees at
their beautiful home in North Carolina,
where we were shooting a modeling video.
As a surprise, Dave and Marie treated me to
a night out at a concert. The concert, it
turned out, was a performance by the Glen
Miller Orchestra. Dave and Marie had no
way of knowing that I was a big band fan,
and especially a fan of Glen Miller’s music.
What a treat!

Shot’s fuselage to the point where it was
ready to accept the wing and tail assemblies.
Let’s start this time with constructing the tail
feathers.
This model’s stabilizer and elevator are made
from simple 3/16 sheet balsa. The stabilizer
should be cut from fairly dense stock (8-10
pounds per cubic foot), and the elevator
should be made from medium to medium-soft
balsa (4-6 pounds per cubic-foot). Why? It is
extremely important to ensure that the
stabilizer will not bend excessively under
load.

IT’S BEEN A long time since I first saw a
picture of myself with an airplane in a
modeling magazine; in fact, I can’t remember
the first time it happened. I can tell you that it
never gets old! It’s always enjoyable to see
your own work and image presented in a
manner that allows many other modelers to
see what you have been working on, and to
see who you are. Yeah, it’s a bit of an ego
thing, but it’s also a sharing thing.

Modeling Spoken Here - 2003/08
IN “LETTERS TO the Editor” in the June
Model Aviation, there was a letter from a
young man who was lamenting the cost of
getting involved in the sport of Radio Control
(RC) modeling. What makes this note worthy
of a subject to cover here is the fact that a
fairly large number of members responded to
that letter and, perhaps more important, how
they responded.
