THE QUESTION OF having product reviews in this column
came to me recently in an E-mail. I am always interested in what
you all would like to see in this column. A product review is
popular with most readers. It requires a different approach, such as
taking photographs of the building process as you complete the
model. In this column it is not viable to do justice to a product or
products and still have any room left.

aerobatic airplane is produced by
an owner who is an enthusiastic
RC pilot. RedwingRC can sell you the
kit and the extras (such as a DLE engine
and strong servos) that you need to
complete the airplane. The company
also sells all of the major parts you
might need down the road. Not sold
are the company’s excellent online
construction/help videos—they are free!
There is a growing market for .30-
size gas airplanes that you can t into
today’s smaller cars. You get a Giant
Scale appearance and better vertical
performance because of the lightweight
nature of the beast.

ignition engines.
There has been a
large trend in recent
years to use electric
motors to power
model aircraft
instead of glow
engines. The growth
of electrics has
somewhat
overshadowed the
significant increase
in popularity of
ignition engines.
Model Aero Polaris XL- 2012/05
My previous experience with
building Depron “slab-type”
foamies for 3-D flying and
general bashing around the sky gave
me a degree of building confidence,
so I was looking forward to putting
together a Model Aero Polaris XL.
The Polaris XL was conceived by
designer Steve Shumate and is a park
flyer adaptation of Laddie Mikulasko’s
beautiful North Star seaplane. It has
a floating hull that is also the fuselage
and a delta-wing configuration, but
uses ailerons and a conventional midtail
elevator.
