THE CRADLE OF AVIATION Museum
is located in the Garden City area of Long
Island, New York. This jewel highlights the
wealth of history of aviation that exists on
the island. Most of the aircraft that were
designed and built in this region are
displayed in the museum in settings that
bring the flying eras together.

article about the process he used to find a
new flying field on Long Island, New York.

AS MANY of you read in last month’s
Model Aviation, The Finger Lakes Air
Pirates (FLAPS) of Geneva, New York,
were commissioned by the Glenn Curtis
Museum of Hammondsport, New York, to
build a scale rendition of the 1908 June Bug.
This was a significant undertaking because
no drawings were available, only a full-scale
replica to scale. The Curtis Museum wanted
a flyable model to celebrate the 100th
anniversary of the flight of the June Bug on
July 5, 2008.

I HAD the distinct pleasure of attending the
75th anniversary luncheon of the Brooklyn
Skyscrapers, held at Sam’s of Gedney Way
Restaurant in White Plains, New York. Club
president, Dave Acton, arranged the event and
also acted as the host. Dave was recognized as
the key person responsible for organizing all
of the club events, including its FF flying
events, and he is the nucleus that binds the
members together.
