I didn’t know that was here,” or
just plain “wow!” are two
comments we often hear at
AMA Headquarters. These comments are
usually from first-time visitors to the
National Model Aviation Museum.
Mention the word “museum” and
some people’s eyes glaze over or roll to
the back of their heads. This is not so at
AMA’s facility! Excitement and wonder
is the norm here. Although the models are
not in actual flight, one can feel the
excitement of past and present model
aviation history.

Many members have gotten into the
spirit of “You know you’re a
modeler when … ” The January
issue of MA hit the streets and my
mailbox filled with so many adaptations of Jeff
Foxworthy’s famous comic line that I’m
looking into a book deal on the subject.

defining moments—an event or happening
that makes a benchmark or place in one’s
mind. In that same vein, I have often used
the phrase “cashing that psychological
paycheck,” meaning an event that gives
great personal reward for something one has
done or had
