District XI 2014/05
A week ago I thought I would be putting my column together at this time, but I didn’t think it would be my last column! I went in for a quick angiogram and wound up with a triple bypass. It went okay, but at the rate I am recovering, I should be good to go on my 97th birthday.
District XI 2014/04
This month, I have two reports regarding 2013 jet meets. It wasn’t that long ago that when jets were mentioned, we were talking about a reciprocating glow engine turning a fan inside the fuselage of an airplane, but in 1983, a model powered by a small turbine flew in England and 1988 one was flown in the US.
District XI 2014/03
Early this year, Bob Benjamin generously donated his nine-foot Aeronca K to the National Model Aviation Museum in Muncie, Indiana. Bob is a longtime Scale modeler, author, and member of the AMA Model Aviation Hall of Fame. This model was designed in 1999 and built during 1999-2001.
District XI 2014/02
In August of this year, Mission Valley Model Aviation of Montana put on a fly-in with all proceeds going to Wings for Wishes Montana. The club field is roughly halfway between Kalispell and Missoula in a sparsely populated area.
District XI 2014/01
George Eckhardt from Bellingham, Washington, reported that 29 US and Canadian pilots brought 63 airplanes and registered for the Bell Air RC Flyers 8th Annual Warbirds Over Whatcom, held July 27-28, 2013. There was good weather and more than 300 spectators contributed 200 pounds of food and $341 to the local food bank.
