Small-Field Flying - 2007/06
CONVERTING RUBBER-powered FF
models to small-field RC models is a common
practice within the small-field-flying
community. I have mentioned doing this on
more than one occasion and I’ve had the
privilege of highlighting the conversion projects of
some fine modelers in these pages.

RTF models: a boon to the builder
IT SURE IS interesting to see how far the world of RTF models has come in
recent years. The range of size and capabilities continues to expand. The
prices of many are also appealing. I have dabbled with some of the smaller
RTFs.

THE SMALL MODEL Airplane Lovers’
League (SMALL) is holding its annual fly-in
June 2-5 at the FARM (Fraternal Association
of Radio Control Modelers) Club field, which
is only a few miles south of the Little Rock,
Arkansas, airport. This is strictly a fun-fly and
is always enjoyable.

I HAVE MENTIONED this before, but this
sure is a great time to be a person who likes to
build model airplanes. The available
technology makes the process fun and helps
modelers achieve nice results. This technology
is enhancing all aspects of the hobby, but for
me it is especially true in the process of
designing and fabricating the parts of the
wonderful flying machines we enjoy at our
local flying sites.

WE’VE ENJOYED 50 years of smallfield
flying and it’s still going strong—not
this column, but the activity.
