If It Flies ...

Dean Pappas discusses how small adjustments in five key areas—control surface gaps, balance, CG, engine thrust, and aileron differential—can significantly enhance aircraft performance. He emphasizes the importance of addressing adverse yaw for improved control during flight maneuvers. Techniques such as coordinated aileron and rudder use, aileron coupling, and differential aileron throw are explored to achieve better handling, particularly at low speeds and high angles of attack.

COMPARE AND CONTRAST: The
process of converting existing airframes and
familiar designs to electric power highlights
something a few of us have observed, not
just in RC but in CL and maybe FF as well.
Although there are many little details to tend
to that are particular to this kind of power,
the basics are the same. Torque turns the
propeller; when torque and rpm are present,
power results; and power must be harnessed
to the airplane by a propeller in the
appropriate size range.
