HI SKYSTERS! For those of us who like
to finish off a splendid meal with a fine
dessert, the Flying Aces Club (FAC)
Outdoor Championships held in Muncie,
Indiana, the weekend of September 11-12,
2004, was the final course for the Flying
Aces Nationals held in Geneseo, New
York, July 16-18, 2004.

THERE ARE ESSENTIALLY two ways
to approach Free Flight Scale, or any other
type of Scale modeling for that matter.
One is to build from kits or plans prepared
by others. That is what most modelers do.
The other way is to “scratch-build” your
projects.

HI SKYSTERS! We are now in that part of the year known as the
“Building Season,” and I hope you are well along on your projects for
the 2005 “Flying Season.”
Before writing at length about Dave Diels, I want apologize to two
of our flying buddies for mistakes made in
my 2004 Flying Aces Club (FAC) Nats
article in the December 2004 MA.
First, to Chris Starleaf for a caption on
page 32 that made it appear as though his 41-
inch-span Lockheed Electra was built from
an ARF kit! The caption should have read
that the motors used for the model, along
with the propellers and gear trains, came
from $15 DJ Aerotech Roadkill RC kits.
Our Stuff - 2003/08
AFTER 54 YEARS as a model-airplane builder (I started when I
was 6) and 33 years as a practicing attorney, it has finally happened:
my beloved hobby and my professional career have been combined.
I am being called upon to advise fellow modelers and, in some
instances, their widows, families, and friends, what to do with
collections of model kits, magazines, books, and materials. It is a
sad fact of life that we all have an expiration date; when we go, our
“stuff” will remain. What will become of it?

IF YOU WERE around in the 1960s and the 1970s, you may remember the
title of this article as one of the lines used by the late comedienne Jackie
“Moms” Mabley. It makes a statement that is relevant to our interests.
