The Inside Loop-2011/08
ompetition is defined as the act or
process of competing and
competitive is someone inclined,
desiring, or suited to compete. These words and
thoughts of what draws someone to compete
came to mind when I attended my first
Indianapolis 500 on May 29, 2011.
The Red Bull Connection
RED BULL, an Austrian corporation, launched its energy drink
of the same name in 1987. Since then, the company has released
Red Bull Cola and has been deeply involved in extreme
sports.
In 2001, Red Bull began laying the groundwork for
what would become known in 2003 as the “Red Bull Air
Race”: an international series of full-scale aircraft
competitions in which the pilots would navigate a lowlevel
aerial track comprising air-filled pylons, or
“air gates.”

A BENEFIT oF our hobby is the great people we
meet along the way. Some live near us and we get
to see them regularly, while we see others only at
fun-flys or various competitions. In either setting, it
is enjoyable to be around people who share our
appreciation of aeromodeling, and it is a great way
to learn and grow in the hobby.
Extreme Flight RC 2010/07
Chris Hinson, who owns Extreme
Flight RC, is just as comfortable with a
transmitter in his hands as he is with a
guitar. Chances are, you will see him with
both at any event he attends.

MANY CONSIDER THE Fokker D.VII to
be the finest single-seat fighter of World War
I. Reinhold Platz designed the aircraft, and the
Red Baron—Manfred von Richthofen—flew
the prototype in January 1918. It soon entered
service, in May 1918, and more than 1,700
had been built by the end of the war.
