Focus on Competition - 2003/08
IT DOES NOT seem possible that I’m
writing an August column right now; it is
still early May here in Muncie. We have
had quite a bit of warm weather, but now
we are in our rainy season. This is slowing
some of the major projects we have
underway for the International
Aeromodeling Center.
Focus on Competition - 2006/07
IF YOU’VE BEEN following my last
couple of columns, you have read about the
possible formation of a standards group that
has been discussed since the February
Frequency Committee (now ETC—
Electronic Technology Committee) meeting
and the RCMA (Radio Control
Manufacturers Association) meeting in
March.
Focus on Competition Technical Update
MY LIFE HAS been immersed in spread
spectrum radios, Li-Poly batteries, and
electric motors all winter. Now it looks
like that will continue into the summer
since I plan to fly an electric helicopter
in the competitions I participate in this
year.
Power Switch: Futaba12Z Radio Control System - 2006/12
THE NEWEST transmitter offered by
Futaba Corporation is the 12Z. It is the
replacement for the recently discontinued,
tried-and-true 9Z, which has been the
standard for competition pilots flying
Futaba systems for a long time. Its
discontinuation leaves some large shoes to
be filled.
Product Review 2003/08
WHEN BOB HUNT, Model Aviation’s
aeromodeling editor, called to tell me he
had a helicopter for me to review, I was
excited! I’ve not done a product review in
several years, and I like doing them. Bob
proceeded to tell me it was a small,
hardwired indoor helicopter—not what I
expected, but intriguing. I figured that this
machine would probably be along the lines
of a toy. Boy was I pleasantly surprised!
