THE DISCOVER Flying Radio Control
Club is one of District I’s many popular
clubs that sponsor numerous activities
including fun-flys, cookouts, competitions,
and International Miniature Aircraft
Association (IMAA) events each year.
District I Report
ON COLUMBUS DAY weekend, I attended
a popular helicopter event in Massachusetts.
One of District I’s RC helicopter-only clubs,
the New England Heli Crew (NEHC), held its
second annual Heli Phenomenon October 9-
11 in Mansfield, Massachusetts. This is the
biggest helicopter smackdown event in the
Northeast.
District I - 2006/04
IN OCTOBER of last year, I received a call
from one of AMA’s Flying Site Coordinators,
Joe Beshar, who informed me that he had
been invited to make a presentation October
25-26 at the National Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) Coordinator
meeting in Boston, Massachusetts.

OUTREACH and collaborative programs
come in many varieties to satisfy AMA
clubs’ specific needs. The following event
was reported by Associate Vice President
Carl Vogel. He tells us about his club’s
collaboration with a Boy Scout Troop to
introduce younger members to the sport of
aeromodeling

IT IS a well-known fact that our AMA
modeling community attracts a higher
percentage of its members from those who are
or have been involved in some facet of fullscale
aviation than from other vocations.
