AMA News: District I-2007/12

THE 2007 outdoor flying season has come
to an end and most of us are focusing on
building that something new for next year or
flying indoor aircraft at some of the
available facilities. If your club has an
indoor site and would welcome other AMA
members to fly at the facility, send me an Email
with the location, dates, and times for
flying.

THE MOST popular AMA club activities
are non-rule book fun-fly events that are
open for flying all types and categories of
aircraft. There are clubs whose members
seek to spice up their fun-fly events by
providing competition-type activities. These
fun-fly competitions involve flying tasks
that are timed or tasks to complete missions
for scoring points.

THE SPORT of aeromodeling has seen
many changes in the past 75 years, as the
hobby industry and modelers have created
new technologies for building and flying
model aircraft. Unlike many hobby sports
where new ideas, techniques, and products
replace the old, there have always been
groups of aeromodelers who enjoy
preserving, promoting, and utilizing the
kinds of model aircraft and equipment from
the “Golden Age of Flight.”
